Textbook assignment

Dear all,

Great job! Impressive process and soon to be great final versions of your posters. Congratulations!

Next and the last assignment. Design a book of texts.

You need to bring in class 50! b/w prints of informational typography—from illuminated manuscript, to magazine columns, book pages, content pages, info on the sides of the food or perfume...packages, from the texts on the streets to annual reports, menues, poetry, flight  schedules......from the famous newspaper catalogues, typedesign/ books/cookbooks/ showbills... to  instructional materials, annual reports, yellow pages...  The only requirement is to be selective. Don't collect "bad type", you need to like those pieces—it should be a collection of text designs that you can learn from, that would become an encyclopedia  or personal library of text design.  Headlines (display type) could be included if the article has a title. Don't cut anything, we are going to edit later. NO IMAGES ARE ALLOWED, unless they are minor decorative elements.

Hope it is clear.

Good luck

medea poster

hey guys this is Hui Min
so i decide to give up with my arrow/bow idea
and continue with my typographic solution, and applied a layer or the face of "medea"
what i tried to represent was a break from the feminine/motherness(pink font) to succeed on her revenge on jason.
any suggestions and critique will help
thanks

mockery.

Hey everyone! I've changed my two Medea posters and made them into one. On the final poster there won't be a black border around the edge. Let me know what you think, thanks!

medea 'pain'

hello everyone..
Hi Olga Type,

For my Caligula poster, I wanted to portray the type of person that I viewed Caligula
which is a tyrant who manipulates and controls everyone- he is somewhat like Hitler.

There is one scene in the play where Caligula calls everyone together and makes them bow down before him, the people are so scared of him that in fact they do it. I wanted to take that scene for and create an emotion/ feeling of oppression or sadness. I put the 1 in Cal1gula to show that he is the only 1 who controls them.

I did different  variations. Tell me what you think

Thanks,
Jonelle

caligula poster-

hi, everyone-
this is bin who is in olga's thursday class.
well, we're doing caligula poster-
the word what I choose for poster is "meaningless"
because,
caligula realised "men die and they are not happy". he has realised the meaningless of the world after the death of his sister/lover. and became such a crazy man, who filled with self hate, ashamed of himself etc (as nicholas wrote bottom...)

so- I made poster as representing the caligula ,who had ultimate power, fade away to empty space-as representing the meaningless of the strongest power...
actually.. red one's type should be more faint..and i don't know why red one looks so dull-
sorry about that-

I have one more version of this poster but I'm still refining now.
I'll post it later-
please tell me what you guys think-
thanks,

Caligula Poster Ideas

Well Caligula isn't quite a man, but a troubled boyed pretty much filled with self hate, ashamed of himself etc. for all the horrible things he has done, etc. I started out with a cartoon suicide idea somewhat giving a very unfunny story a comedic spin, and from there went with a toy mannequin sporting a really big head, trying to keep it childlike, showing the change in his crown from green and leaves that are alive, to dead leaves. To push it even further I came up with the idea of an upset/ashamed  child sitting on his throne aka toilet during potty training. I thought it was hilarious and am now thinking I want to use this image as the poster. The most up to date one is the poster with all type with colored crown on his head. Turning away from the previous brown going more towards marble/stone color since its the story of the roman emperor I found it more appropriate.

Hello all. I've decided to try something new, I feel like my posters weren't painful enough.. I tried making this darker and more depressing..

NB: I couldn't upload this all at once so here are the rest:

Revised Medea Posters

Hello all! These are my posters I have been working on over the break. Just a little reminder my theme rather more than my concept is the fire within Medea and the fire within a woman in comparison to that of a man. I feel like the lighting of my photographs are in the style of a Greek tragedy and the natural use of materials, being the fire and the iron. I would love your comments, good or bad!
