Symbol Poster

Hi everyone! This is Meagan, I was sick yesterday so I couldn't come to class. I'd like to ask for advice on my symbol poster to see if I'm going in the right direction. I still have work to do on ordering it and making it a bit more clear. Thanks!

Hi Meagan,
I understand what you are trying to do— you express the whole story with the help of the images of ducks and Swans, hearts, exclamation marks, and road signs. Everything seems logical, except for exclamation marks that are not invented yet according to our agreement— we play only with pictograms.
Also, although your images are quite recognizable, they don't seem to belong to one strong and unique system of elements.
You have a great simple story to tell. I think, you have at least two different options:
1. to tell a very familiar story in a different way, so that we would be surprised or even shocked. Play with our perception, play with unpredictable and be a co-author of the story. You can even re-write it in your own way...
2. Find an unusual way of expressing the story (don't change the story like above, just tell it differently, away from the cliched imagery. For example: asa sequence of color swatches, or a color chart from dirty yellow to pure white. Question the very puriness of the race, give it a political touch— about being pure and different, and outcast..... Sky is the limit.

Good luck!

Thanks Olga! I was thinking earlier about expressing it using a system of colored dots or squares, the end resulting in the outcast oddly colored dot/square returning as a beautiful, ornately decorated shape. I will create a variety of different options and bring them in the next class!
