Here's another version combining all the elements [type placement, gradient, etc] that i liked the best. Curious to know what you guys think. I like the type giving that throne effect with the two tall 'L's, and keeping that in mind i know if the type went any further left it would a] feel off balance and b] the 'a' in 'caligula' would start to become hidden

I do agree with you- i like how the 2 L's can make a thrown for caligula.
i dont think the gradient in the background is working for me, im not sure what I would do for a background, maybe a suttle gradient or even a suttle texture. or just have one color--you should try a variety and see which one works best.
